How long a headlight lasts varies, depending on what type of headlights your car has and your driving habits. Harsh climates and driving more at night will shorten a lights lifespan. Below I have listed the common lights you will find in today’s vehicles.
- Halogen bulbs: last anywhere from 450 hours to 1,000 hours. That’s a big difference and all depends upon your driving habits.
- HID (high-intensity discharge): are a type of electrical gas-discharge lamp which produces light by means of an electric arc. These bulbs are very efficient; lasting between 2,000 hours and 3,000 hours of use. This works out to about 90,000 miles.
- Xenon: a kind of incandescent light bulb that has Xenon gas added. Xenon bulbs last up to 10,000 hours.
- LED headlights: You can expect these lights to last an average of 30,000 hours
Like most car parts, refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations for best light options.
