We recommend to inspect your vehicle once a month. This will help keep tabs on any issues that you can see. It’s a good idea to take some notes on what you see. Write down your mileage as well. Is your vehicle in need of any maintenance work?
If you are unsure of what maintenance schedules to follow, ask Jim or Brian, and they will let you know.
If, however, you hear any noises, it is best to give us a call so we can get your vehicle inspected right away. Noises are not your vehicle’s friends.
Try to pick a date or time of the month that you will be able to remember so that you can be consistent with your inspections. Of course, you could write this on your calendar at home or on your smartphone calendar.
Look over the interior for any signs of wear and tear. Any issues with the floor? Are the windows and handles working properly? Do the floor mats need to be cleaned or replaced? How about the trunk… any rust here? What about the spare tire… does it need to be inflated or repaired? Do you have all the tools to change a tire if you need to…. do you know how to put on your flat tire?
Some of the exterior items to inspect would be: 1. lights: your vehicle has many lights and most of them you can view to see if they work on your own, but for rear lights it’s handy to have a neighbor or spouse check those. 2. tires: check tires for tread depth, cracks, bulges and air pressure. I have included 2 links from previous posts with more information on tire tread depth and tire maintenance.

UNDER THE HOOD
Here you will want to check the fluid levels for your vehicle. These include: oil, washer fluid, antifreeze, coolant, power steering fluid and transmission fluid.
In addition to the fluid levels, take a look at your timing and serpentine belts. As Ben Franklin said, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
By doing your monthly checks on your vehicle(s) you will be decreasing your chances for a break down emergency!
