Driving through a flooded street is not what you want to do, but sometimes you have no other choice. Flood waters usually happen very quickly!
First, have your car TOWED to a professional service shop. That’s right…. you want your vehicle to be towed, NOT DRIVEN! This is very important so that you can hopefully avoid further damage to your vehicle.
The mechanics will check to see where the water may have gone. Our friends at the Car Care Council say; “It all comes down to how much water the vehicle took in and where it reached,”
A thorough evaluation will be completed. He/she will be checking the undercarriage, filters, brakes and lights. Does the vehicle make any unusual noises? The biggest concern is water in the engine. When driving through a flooded street, water can easily get into the engine because most of us drive too fast through the water and it splashes everywhere or the undercarriage is submerged in water.
It doesn’t matter what age your vehicle is, having to replace an engine can be an expensive reality after driving through flooded streets.
