I’ve been told that my tires have premature wear. What is this?
With the Memorial holiday this weekend, many people will be on the road. Be sure to check your tires this week for proper tire wear and tread depth. Safety is everyone’s responsibility!

Premature wear of tires is when your tires wear out much sooner than they should have. This is basically due to lack of improper maintenance of the tire or not following the manufactures recommendations for use.

There are several reasons that a tire will show premature wear. Some of these are (in order): 1. improper tire pressure. Be sure to have the PSI (tire pressure) checked once a month. Especially important in summer and winter months. The driver’s door has a sticker that will tell you the PSI needed for optimal performance. 2. vehicle being out of alignment. Minimally, have your vehicle aligned in Spring and Fall and whenever new tires are put on. 3. driving with worn struts or shocks 4. lack of tire rotation; Tires should be rotated every 5-6,000 miles 5. heavy braking 6. trucks hauling loads heavier than vehicle designed for 7. worn suspension parts.
The tires, in the pictures below, were put on the car at the same time. Due to lack of rotation the front times were heavily worn on the corners. Unfortunately the customer had to buy two new tires.
