The month of July is National Picnic Month. Hmmm, I think Yogi Bear had something to do with this.
The warm summer weather is perfect for packing a blanket, loading up the cooler with some healthy food and enjoying the fresh outdoors at a local park or some other spot for some serious R & R.
When on vacation, we load our cooler with food for picnic lunches and then stop at rest areas to enjoy a picnic lunch when we are between destinations. Being able to combine the lunch with a view is even better!
One particular stop stands out in my mind. Grandma Berge and our family of four stopped at a rest area on our way out West several years ago. We were in the middle of eating when a very large snake decided to visit near our table! Yikes! Needless to say we all got a bit farther away and waited for the snake to decide where it was going. Thankfully it decided to slither along its way. Whew! We finished our lunch and we were back cruising down the interstate again.
