What is this front end steering part called?
A. Tie rod end
B. Steering knuckle
C. Steering link
D. Ball joint
Answer: A. Tie rod end
Tie rod ends are part of your cars’ steering and suspension system. They connect the steering rack to the steering knuckle on each front wheel. Tie rod ends give us the ability to turn corners. Pretty important part of our cars.
If one of your tie rod ends would break ( there are inner and outer tie rod ends) you would not be able to steer, so you would need to have the car towed to a repair shop and replaced before driving again. Tie rod ends are on that safety list of car repair items.
Some possible symptoms of a weak tie rod end: uneven tire wear, a squealing sound from the front when turning or steering feels loose. Some people describe a noise like a clunky sound or a shaky steering wheel.
Our cars do “talk” to us, so listen to them and take action. Especially when it comes to your steering and suspension system. Be safe out there on the roads!
