What car company was originally known as Swallow Sidecars (aka SS)?

Answer: The Jaguar Company. The Jaguar company was started under the name: SS Cars LTD by William Lyons.  Here Lyons focused on the design of cars. During the Depression Era Lyons fell in love with motorcycles.

In 1924 he met William Walmsley. Walmsley was making side cars and bolting them onto motorcycles in his parents’ garage.  Lyons convinced him that he could be making many more sidecars if he expanded his “facility”.  Lyons and Walmsley’s parents supported the idea and gave them money to do so.  Together Lyons and Walmsley formed the very successful Swallow Sidecar Company.
