Have you ever thought about the history of your automobile’s tires? Nope, me either. Most of us, myself included, just take for granted that our cars will take us wherever we want to go. Those bumps in the road can seem really rough to us, but those bumps felt so much worse to early car drivers in the 1800s.
Tires similar to what we use today were invented along with the gasoline cars. In 1888, Karl Benz of Germany, invented the first gasoline car. The tires on these cars were called Pneumatic Tires. These were metal tires covered with rubber and filled with air. People were used to hard metal tires, so this invention was met with a lot of enthusiasm. I can only imagine the amount of relief people had!
