So why is ASE certification important? ASE Certification means a mechanic or other auto professional has taken some or all of the 50 exams offered and passed. It also gives peace of mind for customers to know that people working on their car(s) have a certain level of knowledge. A Master Tech has taken all the tests and passed each one.
To become ASE certified, a person must show proof of two years of relevant work experience and pass one or more of the ASE tests. ASE certified professionals must retest every five years to remain certified. Each person receives a certificate that lists all test areas that were passed and the expiration date for each area.
These tests are not easy to pass. In fact most people need to brush up on their skills before taking the tests. Being ASE certified takes time, but is very rewarding and mechanics and auto professional can be very proud of their certificates.
