Invention of the Seatbelt

Invention of the Seatbelt

Who is this gentleman? Why is he important in the automotive world? This is Dr. C Hunter Shelden. He was a neurologist that was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1907. Dr. Shelden, as well as other neurologists, began to study trauma from head injuries. This piqued his interest in creating a safer experience while driving a car. In 1955 he introduced a retractable seatbelt that would help prevent injuries from automobile accidents. By 1968 the three-point retractable seatbelt was required and installed in automobiles across the U.S. Thank you, Dr. Shelden, for inventing the seatbelt! This outstanding neurologist went on to develop other safety features for cars. Cleaning Headlights and Brake Lights

Cleaning Headlights and Brake Lights

As I entered my garage this morning, I happened to glance at my headlights. Wow! Were they full of road spray from the recent storm! So, I went inside and got a wet rag to wipe them off. I then went and did the same for my 3 rear brake lights. For safety reasons, I wanted to make sure that other drivers could see my vehicle lights. With these frigid temperatures, I knew that my car wouldn't be getting a car wash in the near future. I figured this is the best I can do for now. If your vehicle is in the same situation, take some time to get your front and rear lights clean again. Stay safe out there on the roads

Repairs and Maintenance Not to Ignore

Repairs and Maintenance Not to Ignore

Getting repairs or maintenance done on our vehicles just isn't fun. We have to go without our vehicles for a day to a week or longer. Many of us put off repairs and/or maintenance for many different reasons. The danger in doing this, of course, is we risk creating more issues or damage to our vehicles. The following 5 repairs need to be completed sooner than later for this very reason. 1. Worn engine/motor mounts. These mounts hold your engine in place. Obviously if the engine is not secured properly with these mounts, you risk other parts breaking. 2. Exhaust leaks. Not only are exhaust issues loud, but you risk the fumes entering inside your vehicle and potential health risks. 3. Fluid leaks. We all put off this repair way longer than we should. It's easier to just add the oil or power steering fluid. Over time this bad habit will cause other issues. 4. Worn shocks and struts. These rarely go bad overnight. So, when you start to feel like you're driving a boat or hear ... read more
