President's Day is celebrated every third Monday of February. That's today! Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th and George Washington was born on February 22nd.
Richard M. Nixon made the executive order to pass the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, in 1971. This Act shifted Washington’s Birthday, Columbus Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans’ Day to a Monday.
Because Abraham Lincoln's birthday is also in February, President's Day was created. This National holiday not only gave us reason to remember our Presidents, but also gave retailers a reason to offer different promotions of their products.
This year, we especially are thinking of our 39th President, Jimmy Carter! Peace be with you Mr. Carter.
Whether you are working today or have the day off, it's a great day to remember all of our Presidents.
