Importance of Maintenance For Your Car

Importance of Maintenance For Your Car

Most of us do not look forward to going in for an oil change and then getting a list of the other things that need to be addressed soon or maybe keep an eye on for now. This is, however, what a quality auto repair shop will do if they truly care about their customers and their vehicles. Yep, Bob's Auto does this! After all, automotive maintenance is all about prevention and addressing small problems before they get big. The fuel filter is one of those small, inexpensive parts that can end in expensive engine damage when they fail. As vehicles age, they accumulate a lot of dirt and rust in their gas tanks. If that dirt gets into the engine, it can cause thousands of dollars' worth of damage. A clogged fuel filter can’t let enough fuel through to meet the demands of vehicle going at higher speeds. At this point, your engine might just shut off or not start at all. You don't want to risk getting stranded or even trash the engine. Much better to follow a regular maintena ... read more

Battery Life in Cold Weather

Battery Life in Cold Weather

As temperatures dropped recently, so did your car battery's ability to hold a charge. Unfortunately, some of you may have experienced this during our last cold snap. NOW would be a great time to get that battery replaced if you had issues during the last cold spell. Don't delay... better during warmer weather than after a no-start on a much colder day.   Here is a link for more information on winter battery care: Winter is Here: How Cold and Snow Impact Batteries

Engine Start Up

Engine Start Up

What does it take for your vehicle's engine to start each time you crank the key or push that modern START ENGINE button? Basically, it boils down to 3 things: SPARK, AIR and FUEL. It provides the initial power needed to start your vehicle. If your vehicle does not start in frigid temps; perhaps it has a weak battery. Cold weather is so hard on batteries and if it is weak to start with, well you know what happens. The next part is the starter. It CRANKS the engine. Cranking is different that starting. Perhaps you have had your vehicle crank over but wouldn't start. You may have had a bad starter, not a bad battery. Next, the ignition switch turns on the power to the starter. It is located on the steering column. Finally, the fuel system brings fuel to the eng ... read more

Cruise Control Inventor

Cruise Control Inventor

Cruise control... almost hard to remember a car that didn't have this feature. This feature has been a staple in vehicles since the early 1950s. Ralph Teetor invented the cruise control as a blind young adult. Ralph was an auto enthusiast by the young age of five. It was at this age that his sight was taken during a shop accident, but he would go on to earn a degree as a Mechanical Engineer. Ralph would use this degree to develop several auto related parts at his family's business. The inspiration for the cruise control came after Ralph's experience being a passenger in his lawyer's car. His lawyer would speed up too fast and then would need to apply the brakes often. This bad habit drove Ralph crazy, so he came up with the cruise control as a solution to his problem. Ingenuus! Thank you, Ralph! The link below has more details about Ralph Teetor and his invention of the cruise control ... read more
