All this warm weather has me thinking Spring! Which of course, makes me think of those potholes and the rough driving that happens on the roads during this time of the year. What was it like driving on such bumpy roads? What kind of damage did those roads cause the drivers? Well, they actually had to deal with bad roads quite often. No surprise there. The first automobile tires were similar to a bicycle tire with high pressurized air. The tires, unfortunately, often failed. The picture you see is a metal plug inserted into a tire for when drivers were stranded alongside the road. The plug was designed by The Spitler Puncture Plug Company. This quick fix allowed the drivers to get on the road again until they got the tire fixed properly or replaced

My speedometer broke yesterday! Now what do I do? Even though this is an uncommon repair; it does happen. First of all, yes, you can still drive your car but be aware of your speed. Are you keeping up with the vehicles around you? Are you passing more people than usual? Are more people passing you than usual? Secondly, check the fuse that controls the speedometer, the instrument cluster fuse. If this is ok, then your best bet is to call us at Bob's Auto to have one of our skilled techs take a look. We will check things like the instrument cluster, wheel speed sensor, wiring (rodents are horribly cruel to auto wiring) or a faulty ECU (electrical control unit). Stay safe out there!
